This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Sewing With Knits: 5 Wardrobe Essentials »

Difficulty:

Category: Sewing

Type of item: Clothing

For: Women

Style: Casual

Materials

Cotton jersey with lycra.

What was your inspiration?

I have always wanted to make my own knit clothes. They are so comfortable for every day. I don't like my clothes too tight so have made this with a looser fit.

What are you most proud of?

The neckline. I have never made a t-shirt before and thought I would have problems but thanks to Meg's instructions it went on without a hitch.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

It is amazing how easy and quick they are to make - I will be making lots more.

You have done so many nice t-shirts and blouses Lynne. This one match the garden flowers (nasturtium?) perfect.

Ha! I never noticed before, it really does blend in with the nasturtiums :)

great job..love knits..signed up the class myself..have a serger..but just want some more tips to handle this pesky fabric..each knit is different..am working with a matte jersey right now....it has a mind of its own...drapes gorgeous though...but like working with sand...it just keeps moving!

You are right about each knit being different. This one was quite stable when I sewed it but have just finished one that is exactly like the fabric you described. It was sliding all over when I was trying to sew it and I had to hold it together with my fingers every inch or so. It does give better drape though. Look forward to seeing yours.

I agree the color suits you. Did you find the tee easy to make? I bought material to day and needles, stretch elastic and such. I still need to put the pattern together. Your tee has a lovely fit to it.

Thanks. Yes, I found it very easy to make, especially putting the sleeves in which I thought might be tricky. You will enjoy making this and all your other knit clothes I'm sure. Looking forward to seeing your t-shirt.

Thanks for the tips about fabric shops CraftyNHmom, I had a look and there are some really nice patterns there. The problem with over here would be shipping costs as jersey is so heavy and also customs duty on packages over a certain amount. I might email them about it though.

Thanks. I got it from Ebay, I live in a little seaside town in England and there isn't much choice of fabrics.

When you have time, check out Girl Charlee Fabric. I just tried them and was surprised at the quality for the price!! I was going to ebay or fabric.com for knits.
