Difficulty:

Category: Sewing

Type of item: Clothing

For: Children

Style: Classic, Cute, Traditional, Retro / Vintage

Materials

Apples and Pears by Alexander Henry and a generic matching yellow quilting cotton that I picked up at my local fabric store.

What was your inspiration?

My daughter is starting Junior Kindergarten in the fall and needs some school clothes.

What are you most proud of?

I tried a lot of new things, including a full row of button holes (I'd only done single buttons before). This was the most complicated dress I've made so far.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

It was a bit of work but worth the effort. My only disappointment is that is ended up being far too big for my daughter so it will be a while before she can fit into it.

For some reason, my pattern links aren't working on Craftsy anymore. I have no idea why because when I go in and check the links are there. Here is the link. It was a sew-along so it's spread over a couple posts on Craftiness in Not Optional... http://www.craftinessisnotoptional.com/2011/05/anna-dress-part-1-pattern-and-pieces.html

I would love this dress in a size 8/10 women's!!! Really! It's cute, comfortable, practical, and beautiful. I love simplicity. Why don't people get to wear what they love???

If you follow her instructions, it can be converted into your size. She shows you how. I love her blog. Just click on the pattern link.

I love your cute dresses! I actually saw that fabric online and fell in love...now I love it even more! I've been making those cute little skirts for a couple of years now, I think I'm ready to graduate to the dress. (Not this one, that's like grad school for me!) Thanks for sharing your projects! :)

I keep hitting the enter button, sorry. Where would you find designer fabric if you are shopping in the states. I am going to Indiana in a couple of weeks. I see the fabric and have order off Etsy. I was hoping that there was someone near here to buy from for other designers because it takes so long to come after you order. Do you sell your projects?

Once in a while you can find a designer fabric in Joann's but your better off looking at quilting shops or buy online.

The fabric is Alexander Henry Apples and Pears which I purchased on a shopping trip in the states but you can find plenty of it on Etsy, as well as Tanya Whelan fabric too. I buy 80% of my fabric on Etsy.com because the selection at Fabricland is horrible.
