Instructions
I worked the crossed doubles scarf with a I hook (I think), Red Heart Super Saver in Monet, and on a 20-st. base.
Ch 21, turn.
Row 1: Sc in each chain across, ch1, turn. (Front side)
**Row 2: In back loop only, sc in each st across, ch 3, turn. (Ch-3 acts as first dc of next row)
Row 3: Dc in 2nd st, *skip 1 st, dc in next st; yo; with hook behind dc just completed, insert hook through hole created by skipped stitch (from back to front), and then place through skipped stitch (from front to back) and complete dc.* Work from * to * across row to last 2 sts. Work regular dc in each of last 2 sts.
Rows 4-10: Repeat Row 3.
Row 11: Repeat Row 1.**
Repeat from ** to ** 13 times, repeat Row 2. This completes the length of the scarf, minus the fringe.
For the fringe, I worked ch-3 spaces across each end, and added 6" fringe. (3-12" strands of yarn, doubled over in each space).
There are published directions for the crossed double crochet in "200 Crochet Tips, Techniques & Trade Secrets" by Jan Eaton on page 80. These directions differ from my stitch in that her stitch is worked over the previous stitch and mine is worked behind the previous stitch, like her directions for the crossed treble.
Let me know if I left anything out.

What was your inspiration?
The Special Olympics 2011 Scarf Project. After I finished my project scarves, I just started making other scarves.
What are you most proud of?
That even with a very late start (one month before the last of the deadlines!), I was able to make four scarves for Special Olympics and get them into the mail to them in time!
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
Scarves are a great beginner project - pretty straight-forward and a world of "mistakes" can be hidden in the folds! Great way to practice new stitches.
