This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Sassy Librarian Blouse »

Instructions

Print the pattern in color. Check pattern size to your body and make flat pattern changes. Always do a muslin.

Difficulty:

Category: Sewing

Type of item: Clothing

For: Women

Style: Traditional, Classic, Retro / Vintage, Cute, Romantic

Materials

Cotton fabric by Robert Kaufman - Imperial Fusions Kyoto. Screen print. I do not recommend this fabric as a choice. To stiff and metallic silk screen just to heavy. Better suited to a dress.

What was your inspiration?

Christine's online class is great. Had good success with my first Sassy Blouse.

Love this fabric.

Very nice sassy blouse! How did you get on with Craftsy and changing/refunding the Betzina course Scheri?

Pohutukawa no refund after 30 days. I really don't want a refund so much as I would like Sandra to supervise here craftsy.com online classes and assist students.

Scheri, This is just darling! Nice job. I know you are enrolled in Sandra Betzina's pants fitting class but have you ever taken her Power Sewing classes? Thanks

Scheri this is really awesome! I think you are really gifted in crafting and sewing. Have you tried making period dresses? You must know Sense and Sensibility patterns by Jennie Chancey. She has got a beautiful Romantic Era Blouse and other dresses.

Hi, I'm checking out your other wonderful projects and found blouse number 2 after admiring your eyelet one. This is very pretty fabric (even if it was hard to work with), and looks great with the collar and buttons! Great job!

Your fabric is beautiful! I need to get printing and start sewing my sassy blouses. Thanks for the tips on muslin, which I have been doing but sometimes it's easy to think 'oh I should be able to do this' and not do a muslin. But your pretty shirt has me inspired. (That printing and taping and cutting can wear a girl out !)

It is tricky as you added width to the front facing seam. So you're going to have to get creative with your button holes too!

Beautiful fabric! I haven't dived into this course yet so I'm not sure about the off-center issue.I think the double-breasted idea might be something to try...

This is picture with having the collar edge meet in centre. Now the right panel front is really off centre. Almost could do a double breasted button placement? Help? Ideas?

love the fabric! I was thinking the same as simiddle523209 about adding a second line of trimming like the one you have, to make it visually balanced, and the buttons in the middle, if they are off in placement underneath, you could place fake buttons centered in between, and snaps underneath ?? I would not add much else because it is already very rich...really pretty!!!

How did you go around the fit? I am finding it impossible here...am working on muslins but it always comes out somewhat baggy, shapeless, and I would really like it to be more fitted around bust and waist

I would definitely place a second line of trimming to balance this out and then place your buttons in the centre or not bother and just have snaps underneath. I think it needs the second line to balance the garment out. I love the fabric and the trimming complements the fabric really well.

See distance between collar edge. About 1". Throws the front of shirt off balance as the right side front (with binding) is longer) What to do?

Sew a second silver bias strip from collar edge to bottom hem. Place special mock buttons down the front. You could even add a bow on the left side neck collar to add more of your own uniqueness. After all, you are constructing a piece of art that you can add your own personality to.
