What was your inspiration?

Our favorite place in the world is Sanibel Island, Florida, the shell capital of the world. My husband asked for a quilt that would remind him of the beach. I had been making quilts for practically everyone in our family for Christmas, so he kind of forgot about it. I gave it to him for Christmas as a surprise, and it brought tears to his eyes. The batik fabric I had bought a long time ago on an impulse. I thought it went great with this quilt because it's the colors of the sunset and tropical foliage of Sanibel.

What are you most proud of?

I was able to keep it a surprise and it made my husband so happy.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

This was a very quick and easy pattern. There are so many great ideas and patterns on quilting.about.com!

Material and placement makes all the difference in the world! I love yours but don't care for the Bonnie's pattern example at all. I'm still learning. :-)

Love it, and it was extra special because it was a surprise. How fun.
