What was your inspiration?
This was a request for a twins birthday party "Beach" themed. The boys loved the beach and the parents wanted to make it as fun as they could without getting to take them there. So I thought up a beachy sand castle for them.
What are you most proud of?
It was pretty hard to come up with a sand castle that didn't look just like all the other castles from cake but after many many trials and error with the ice cream cones in every different spot - I stopped on this one and I thought in the end it turned out pretty well. It did take for ever to get the crushed cracker on the walls though.... :o)
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
Make sure to allot plenty of time to do something like this because although it looks like you could just toss the graham cracker up on the sides and be done with it....you will be wrong! I ended up spreading the icing all over and then applying (painting) a thin layer of honey because the icing would start to set and the cracker needed something to adere to. Yes, if I did the icing as I went along, I could have attached it to that...BUT, when I did that - it was messier with the icing then getting back on my hands as I patted it on. It's up to you, just a word of caution - good luck!
