Same Procedure but with Fabric Paint

Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
The Art of Cloth Dyeing »

Instructions

I made these with fabric paint in 2010 but it is first now I have tried it with Procion MX (take a look at my other project here)

Difficulty:

Category: Other

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Other

Style: Retro / Vintage

Materials

Cotton fabric and fabric paint/thinned fabric paint

What was your inspiration?

Shibori books.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

For the little brown fabric I used flour resist, then painted with fabric paint and over dyed with Procion MX. The other pieces are dyed completely in fabric paint.

You should try it.

I love working with paint. Maybe that will be the next class! The paint solids separate from the water (I assume that's what you did - thinned the paint with water) and the water leeches away from the solids - so that you het that interesting edge sometimes. Very neat. Did it change the hand of tre fabric and make it a little stiff - or was it ok?

That would be nice if you made a new class about that - and maybe printing? Yes, I used water thinned fabric paint. It changed the fabric a little, not much.

It would be nice with a paint class and maybe a print class too? I thinned the paint with water and this method changed slightly the hand of the fabric.

Very beautiful, I've used fabric paint on dyed fabric, but haven't dyed over painted fabric, I'll have to give it a try :-)

Thank you. Can't wait to see what you will come up with. I hope you will show it here.
