Share a little about the materials, processes and techniques used to create this cake: The cake is made out of buttercream using the upside-down method for smooth edges using the Jessica Harris class. The toppers are made out of fondant and the reindeer out of modeling chocolate using Jessicakes recipe. For the characters, I used a printable template. I also used a template for the name plaque and finished the border using a clay extruder. One more thing I tried out was making rudolf's nose shiny by using the corn glaze syrup recipe in an article posted by Leslie (Achieve a Glossy Finish, Come Rain or Shine). Worked like a charm. It was so glossy that people thought it was hard candy drops.
What are you most proud of? The fact that I incorporated a few elements from Jessica Harris class like for instance using templates for the toppers. But I would say that I'm most proud of my sculpted Reindeer. I believe it's my third time trying to sculp anything.
What advice would you give someone starting this project? Use my 5 P's Proper Planning Prevents Poor Performance! I originally intended to do Rudolf standing up but left him for the last minute. So because he wasn't drying fast enough I had to change plans and have him sitting down. The toppers were so time consuming that I overestimated my time with the cake topper.
