Materials

Ashland Bay Bluefaced Leicester. I dyed it myself with Greener Shades dye.

What was your inspiration?

Just watching the video lessons from this class were so inspiring! I feel like there are a lot of techniques that are a bit beyond me since I'm a relatively new spinner and I only use a spindle, but I loved learning about all the possibilities and I plan on getting a wheel someday so I will definitely try some of the techniques.

I dyed this top myself and although I had dyed quite a bit of yarn I had never dyed fiber. It didn't take as evenly as I thought it would - I thought it would be solid! But it came out quite varied with different shades and some purple spots.

I split the top into strips (I think I did 8) and then pre-drafted each strip. Then I spun but I didn't try to keep the strips organized or always start in the same place. So when I plied it was all pretty random and some areas had some barber poling but since the colors don't contrast too much it wasn't a huge amount.

What are you most proud of?

That I started with plain white fiber and ended up with this gorgeous yarn! I love the way the colors turned out and I love the variation in shades. The BFL is so soft and the chunkiness of the yarn is very cozy.
