Have you found any item to replace having to sew on the rings that works and does not snag the cords

Hello, Not really. There are iron-on products from Dofix or Kwikaffix. You can also sew cord shrouds directly to the shade although I still use rings with the cord shrouds. You need to catch the face fabric somehow and sewing on rings accomplishes that quite well. If you have any specific questions I am happy to help.
