What was your inspiration?
Years ago, my mother in law gave me a ratty old rocker to reupholster - not that I know anything about upholstery! I thought for years about weaving the fabric myself and, when my local guild held an exhibit of finished work this past fall,, I decided the time had come. Per the exhibit guidelines, I chose the patterns from a photograph on the cover of a book to match my living room furniture and drapes. I designed the stripes using the Fibonacci series.
What are you most proud of?
I really love the twill fabric! And I'm proud that I managed to get the whole thing done in time. ;)
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
Sample sample sample! Try some variations you're not planning to use, just to see what they'll do. It wasn't until after I'd woven all the fabric for the chair that I tried a straight draw treadling and realized that I liked the zigzags that made even better than the diamonds I'd woven.
Also, unless you have experience, get a professional upholsterer to work with your fabric. I'd have been really disappointed to spend all the time and energy on making beautiful fabric only to mess it up with an amateur upholstery job.
