What was your inspiration?

I wanted to do something special to celebrate my son's 30th birthday.

What are you most proud of?

It is completely my own work from the design up.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

There is no pattern for this quilt - I designed it as I went along. The only requirement I had was that it was to be black and white.

It is a black and white colorwash to represent dawn. The 'sun' block is based on the Mariner's compass constructed using foundation piecing. The feature star blocks are 4" and 6" friendship star blocks.

The friendship stars in the border are appliqued.
