What materials did you use? Canvas for stitching, DMC floss.

What are you most proud of? Belarusan traditional patterns are commonly done in cross stitch and old technique called Nizanka. I've recreated them, transferred into modern techniques. Particularly, for this design, I invented a new stile in Bargello technique, kind a For-Way variation.

What advice would you give someone starting this project? It is stitched with tent and long straight stitches only. Pretty easy :) You can repeat stitched segments and make your project as small or as big as you wish, square or length wise

And I never tire of wondering how these geometrical patterns with an optical effect were designed very first. Taking into account the intricacy and whimsicality of this patterns, yet their hoary antiquity, I try to imagine what way they had been designed at the times immemorial - I see my distant fore-mother working with ...a pencil ...on a piece of charted paper..? or directly on a primitive weaving loom at once? read more... pattern/embroidery/hand-embroidery/ripples-on-water-1-a-spring/84971?fresh=true&NAVIGATION_PAGE_CONTEX
