Lizbeth Tatting Thread size 10 Color 124 Clover tatting shuttle

What was your inspiration?

Beautiful tatting.
(Sorry, but the picture is upside down and I don't know how to right it within the Craftsy platform.)

What are you most proud of?

I'm most proud of the uniformity of my picots and thread links.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

I wasn't able to make all my picots the same size until I took the time and effort to measure them against a ruler. Same technique used for the thread links. It took more time, but the results were worth it.

I'm getting better at eyeballing the size now.

Hello Catherine. I'm taking Marilee Rockley's Shuttle Tatting Class. I don't know how to needle tat, but Marilee's class is wonderful and the skills you learn with a shuttle should make it possible for you to make dollies.

Just wondering... would counting stitches help, like when you are knitting? Just an idea...

Well, you have to count the double stitches as you make them, but thread lengths without stitches have to be "measured" in some way to ensure consistency throughout your piece. But perhaps I'm not understanding you. Can you explain your suggestion?

Exquisite! You're doing great! Glad to hear that it's getting easier to eyeball the picot sizes now.

Thank you. Your tatting will be beautiful very soon. I tatted this very slowly. I think I spent an hour and a half making this because I'd redo a picot if it didn't look right. That's when I decided to get a ruler out and found that I had to be really accurate in measuring because the tolerances are so narrow.
