Instructions

The original pattern was shown all in pinks, but as this was a raffle quilt for our local Relay for Life, I did not want to limit the scope to women/breast cancer. An online search showed the various colors associated with many different types of cancers. That inspired the change to the overall pattern, which in effect makes the pink ribbon stand out even more! Category: Quilting

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Charity

Style: Traditional

Materials

The selection process took a few hours! Three quilt shops were visited to get the complete color range I was searching for, not sure of any of the fabric designers.

What was your inspiration?

Just the pattern itself. This is my third donated quilt for Relay for Life, and a way that I can use my talent and passion to further research into such a deadly disease.

What are you most proud of?

How awesome it looked when I finally pinned it to my drapes for the first full-on 'look-see'. I couldn't stop smiling!!

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Don't be intimidated by the graph, or the number of fabrics. Just take your time, if something doesn't work, change the color!

It is called Ribbon of Hope, and I got it from our local quilt shop. I think you can google it also. I did, however, change the color scheme from all pinks to the greens/yellows/orange tones to make it more gender neutral. There are more types of cancer than breast cancer, and each one has a color!

Thank you. Changing the background colors to the greens/yellows/creams certainly helps the ribbon POP! Some people actually believed it was a p ainting, not a quilt!
