Our local Joann store has a very nice selection of bag handles including wooden ones, you can order stuff from them online too...but not sure online includes bag handles...but worth a try.

Hi to all.. I have heard this alot in my 59 years on this earth.. that if you save something long enough that it will eventually come back into style. After finding these handles.. it reminded me of when I moved 11 years ago. My then 20 year old daughter found old pocket books in my mothers closet with these handles on them. I told her that back in the 70's these handles were used to match the outfit that you wore. My sister in law made purses with every outfit that she wore. Nowadays things are not so dressy as they were back then. It's anything goes.. while my daughter and I could not think of using them 11 years ago, the year 2000.. now these handles, 11 years since we ran across them.. I'm actually sitting here trying to fathom using them again.. for a couple of outfits. I use to sew alot.. trendy things, I've never been in.. I've always wanted to make my own 'trails' in this life.. I put my sewing machine up after many years of sewing.. the last thing that I made was some curtains.. and they really made me ill to think of them now.. I was so tired with them.. People don't sew like they use to.. I wonder why?? has anyone found that to be true??

I agree. They don't sew like they used to. Atleast you know that you will be original on your designs. I would definitely use them and go crazy. If it's something that you love to do.... then do it. I am going to start sewing again. Used to sew when I was younger and when my kids were little. I loved to sew and working never allowed me to relax and do that. I started to learn how to sew when I was in Grade 7 or 8, that was 43/44 years ago. People either want it yesterday, or they just don't have as much creativity as we did. I think any crafter/quilter/knitter/scrapbooker, etc. will tell you that people just don't know what they're missing. :-)

I think the bags are beautiful, I only wish I knew how to get the pattern, everytime I put my name in they kick it , telling me I made a mistake. Imagine that I've had the same name for 50 years, and then I find out it;s wrong. Anyhow they're lovely, only wish I could get the pattern, I've oodles of grandchildren, nieces, and great nieces to make them for. Great Gift Idea. Lee Leveille

Really neat project!! My dear mother crocheted her 'handwork bag' and lined it in silk 55 years ago. The handles are wood, very similar to the ones on your bags. I inherited the bag and cherish it. Your project brings back memories of riding in the car going on vacation with mother in the front seat crocheting, tatting, or knitting some project. Her hands and fingers were NEVER idle. Consequently she finished many lovely projects in her lifetime.

Oh how wonderful dottyeb, I am so pleased to have reminded you of her, my grandmother made them for me and kept reusing the handles. I love to recycle.

Love this comment, I too always take projects in the car so I'm wasting time when I'm not driving. I live In B,C, Canada and while driving to Las Vegas and back I made my first grandson 5 new outfits, (before he was born) didn't know he was a boy, we just guessed. I never go anywhere without something in a bag to do. Lovely memory you have of your mother
