What advice would you give someone starting this project? I chose lavender and chamomile flowers for their soothing aroma, you can try different herbal flowers of your liking or make a non-scented Relax Pack.

Flax seed can be found in the health food section of your grocery store, or at a health food/organics store in your area, Online ordering is another option, but I find the shipping costs to be prohibitive with my budget. Here is one site that I know of that carries flax seed: http://www.bobsredmill.com/brown-flaxseeds.html?&cat=6

will white rice work also?

White rice will work, but there are a couple of reasons why I would not suggest it: pointy ends could make the pack a little prickly, and rice is highly susceptible absorbing to moisture. Flax seed is easily found in the health food section of the grocery store, not overly expensive, stable in a normal environment, nice feel in this project for comfort, and has no smell.

Wanda, this is a free pattern. Above, under name of website or photo is the Relax Pack Project in red, click that link to go to my web site www.sharonhollanddesigns.com for a free download. The pack has flax seed inside to heat up.

Thanks for sharing the site with the pattern! This would be wonderful for our elderly day care center! So often, the elderly have pain in their neck and shoulders from arthritis or they just get cold!
