this began as a "paper piecing" pattern, I am going to make adjustments on my border. Originally Judy Niemeyer's pattern has a "fence" around the edge. I will not have that, as I do not want to "contain" the sun. Instead I plan to put some wisps of red going outward. After quilting, I plan to put beading on to give it sparkle.
Some paper piecing experience required to match the "Y" seams, ...

What was your inspiration?

I have a friend who has made "Judy Niemeyer" patterned quilts before, and I love hers !

What are you most proud of?

Using red fabrics from my stash. Starting with someone's pattern and making the final project my own.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Jump in ! Judy's paper pieces included in her patterns make it easy to sew on the lines and make her quilts.

PattyAK - DO try Judy Niemeyer's patterns ! I just go the "Bali Bedrunner" pattern in the mail. It is for a 30" x 104" bedrunner. Looks like a Double Wedding ring, with a star type shape in the points where the rings connect. I think a bed runner or table runner would be a nice choice for someone doing paper piecing rather than an entire quilt. just go for it !
