Instructions

I love quick projects that yield a fun result. The thick and thin nature of the Manos Wool Classica yarn and the beautiful color variations make any simple project look stunning. I used these to my advantage to knit the Red Sheila pattern, using a simple feather and fan stitch pattern and large needles.

Difficulty:

Category: Knitting

Type of item: Accessory

For: Women

Style: Whimsical, Cute, Casual, Mod, Funky

Materials

Manos del Uruguay Wool Classica Yarn in Flame Colorway (115), US #11 Bamboo Knitting Needles

What was your inspiration?

The intuitive nature of the feather and fan stitch pattern, and that vibrant red color of the yarn! Just look at it! So gorgeous!

What are you most proud of?

How the pattern and yarn worked so well together.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Just do it. You never know how it's going to turn out until you try it.

I'm a BEGINNER. Someone gave me needles and some fuzzy yarn. This is SO BEAUTIFUL. Is this easy enough for me, or can you direct me to a bare basics scarf I can knit? Gosh I love this so much!

Karen, lace tends to freak beginners out, but after looking at this pattern I know you can do it with a little practice. When I first started doing lace, my biggest problem was ending a row with the wrong number of stitches, but as I did more and more, I started wondering what on earth had been tripping me up so much in the beginning. It definitely gets easier with practice and this pattern is a good 'starter' pattern. Start off doing a swatch if you want practice before the 'real deal' and if in doubt, periodically insert a lifeline into your scarf so if you do find you've gone wrong somewhere, it's easy to go back just a little bit instead of a lot. When getting started, YouTube videos from other knitters can be invaluable (and here, and knittinghelp.com and ravelry.com, and...we're everywhere!). Good luck!

What a pretty scarf, and the color of that yarn is beautiful! I just love the feather and fan stitch.
