Recyled Jean Clutch

Instructions

This is another clutch made of mostly recycled materials. I found a fabric book at a local store for $2.00 and noticed a lot of samples that would go well with blue jean fabric. So I cut strips of those from the book and then sewed them together. I sewed those to the little pocket that was inside a pocket of some old blue jeans I had cut up to use for quilting. I then added cotton batting ...

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Accessory

For: Women

Style: Classic, Traditional, Cute

Materials

Fabric book scraps, old pair of blue jeans, cotton fabric from old curtains, cotton batting, 3 small buttons, basic sewing materials, 9" blue zipper.

What was your inspiration?

A fabric samples book purchased at a local store and an old pair of blue jeans.

What are you most proud of?

I like that most of the materials are recycled and I like the front pocket.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

I should have done a better job of measuring the front as I sewed the pieces together - I kind of winged it... so, the pocket is not quite centered. My husband said it made it look more hand made - so I'm sticking with that

Saw your question about sample books below. I think some thrift stores might have them, and then furniture stores that get in new lines - I don't know what they do with those but perhaps it's worth asking. I happen to get mine at a local store that sells a variety of things and the owner had too many and decided to throw them in with other fabric for $2.00 each!

this is so cute, thanks for sharing. I want to make one now. Just wondering if you used all denim fabric? Or did you use some cotton? Great job!!

Thank you! The back, pocket and a couple of the small pieces are denim from my jeans. The other pieces that were cut from the samples book were all cotton. I'm not sure I would know if any of those were denim. In fact, I need to look up the difference!

Thank you! That book sat a while! It was really the type of fabric that gave me the inspiration - when I bought it I just knew something could be done with all that fabric!! Good luck!
