What materials did you use? Recycled old ratty T-shirts

What are you most proud of? I recently taught two groups of children, around 40 in all to make a simple rag rug out of old t-shirts, it was a very successful project.

What advice would you give someone starting this project? Start collecting and have quite a few t-shirts ready because once you start it comes together quickly. Cut t-shirts in strips, join with either knots or a few stitches, braid and tack stitch together to form a circle or oval shape

Hi and Lori, instructions on this project have been posted in earlier comments, but it is quite easy to do. Cut t-shirts into strips, in a spiral starting at the bottom (see photo at top) once you have cut a few t-shirts, braid and then lay on a flat surface to stitch, I have lead groups of children through this project, it is easy and addictive, have fun

What do you use to sew it all together?

I just used plain cotton thread, this is a great, really easy project, if you can braid you can do this, instructions have been posted a few times in the comments, but I will remember to post instructions in the details in the future, I didnt think to do that. Sorry for any confusion

My grandmother used to save every piece of clothing that was passed down, and finely too ragged to wear also old socks, flour sacks and nylon socks. All of this used cloth was saved in a big old cloth sack that hung on her bedroom door. When the sack was full we would all braid like material together for rugs. A lot of the old denim was made into quilts using old holey blankets in the middle for batting. We got by on very little, but because we lived on a farm had chickens, a milk cow, and big garden, we ate well.
