What advice would you give someone starting this project?

When making such a large and time consuming blanket for a family member, do everything you can to prevent it from getting lost in the mail (which happened to me..grumble..grumble..USPS). To prevent your creation from getting lost in the mail, do NOT pack in a box that used to contain medical devices (even if the letters are blacked out). Get as much insurance as you can. And pay for Delivery Confirmation, and anything else to insure that it get's the recipient.

Oh no... did USPS ever locate the lost package or was your wonderful blanket lost forever in the black hole of lost mail? Tell me it wasn't so!

Sadly, I never saw the blanket ever again. But USPS was able to send me a piece of the box with my family member's address on it. It boggles my mind that they found the box but not the contents. I just hope that blanket found a good home and didn't get disposed of.

Same problem I had recently, USPS sent the empty box to my customer after it sat in a postal sorting plant for 5 days, what was the box doing that long being opened and then put back into sorting, sad!
