Thanks for the sweet and generous comments! The very first bag I felted is a tiny precious thing! I'll get a photo here soon. I pretty much just knit in the round. I went online to see how to make handles - which at the time seemed too challenging. So I made a large "buttonhole" for a handle. After felting the project, I was hooked. I scout around for wool that's on sale - sometimes I find unusual fibers - the backpack has a fine red fiber from Italy knitted with a dark blue wool. I had no idea how it would turn out (yes, I am a non-gauge, no practice swatch gal...so far so good!). Loved the finished product. I also purchase at local shops and big name brand stores...it's felted, you don't need expensive all the time! One piece of advice that I highly recommend...put your knitted project in a pillow case to felt in your washer. Sometimes the wool gives off a tremendous amount of fibers...and no purse is worth replacing your washer! (to me....!)

This bag is gorgeous! You have a great eye for colour and the lining is perfect. I am just starting out with knitting and I find your handbag project inspirational. I would love to know how you created it and what kind of wool you used; this is the kind of project that sparks those creative urges and makes me wish I could eventual learn to create such a piece. Would you ever consider sharing your steps for 'how-to-make-a knitted-handbag' with us? Your kindness would be so appreciated, especially by those of us who are just beginners. I hope you post other projects - thanks for sharing this one.
