Rainbows and lilacs pieced quilt top

Is this your project? Can you share instructions or a pattern with the Craftsy community?

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Functional

For: Home

Style: Traditional, Romantic, Classic

Materials

Hand dyed cotton batiks Lilac cotton print

What was your inspiration?

Saw this pattern in a quilt at a quilt show. i sketched out the 'pattern', went home and 'worked it out' in muslin to get the correct size pieces. I think there is a book on the market for "French Braid" quilts also. This top is patiently waiting to be hand quilted. I can't get at it right now, but wanted to share the lovely hand dyed batik colors and quilt pattern.

What are you most proud of?

The hand dyed batik color selections. The camera does not do them justice. One color flows into another in a rainbow effect. The 'rows' of french braid begin from the center lilac squares and are 'braided' to the bottom of the rows where they end in a lilac half square.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

This pattern is based on the traditional "Log Cabin" pattern. It is an extremly EASY pattern. The top shown is king size.

It is SUCH an easy quilt top. Goes together REALLY FAST! All it is is a modified Log Cabin. If you want to try a smaller version to see if you like it, go to this link and make a table topper.

beautiful quilt. I will be taking a class in Aug. My only worry is the color run. How easy is that.

I like to triple wash all of mine prior to ever using for quilting. That way, you are assured the color will not run.

Here is a link to a great book with patterns. I took mine off of a quilt at a quilt show, but the ones in this book are very similar. Good luck.

Just found this free pattern on-line, and this is pretty much how i did mine. Especially the part where you assemble the one side with the square and then cut the preassembled strips. Hope this helps. http://quiltbug.com/free/table-topper.htm
