Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Design It, Quilt It: Free-Form Techniques »

Instructions

I used two templates and a frixion pen to mark the quilt top.

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Home Decor

For: Home

Style: Romantic

Materials

hand dyed cotton fabric with cindy's gourmet batting of cotton and a thin layer of wool. I used silk thread, trilobal poly thread, variegated threads and cotton. Also hot fix crystals in the center squares.

What was your inspiration?

I used a lot of Cindy's background fillers, fun and beautiful. I didn't really think that I would like the scribbling, but it is so effective in making the other quilting pop. I still like my "bump, bump, over" feathers though. Only problem is the backtracking...

To answer a question, I posted pics of the stencils I used, from The Stencil Co. And I purchased two pieces of dyed fabric, I posted the other similar dyed piece.

What are you most proud of?

I used this square of fabric mostly to play around with some new templates and threads, but wow, I love the result. Oops, I mean stencils, not templates...

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

remember to use your fingertips (like Cindy said) when doing small circles, etc... I had to keep reminding myself when I found my shoulders all hunched up to used my fingertips.

Oh WOW! Just inpirational! I love your use of coloured threads... great seeing what your pattern evolved from, but took a few looks to pick them out in your masterpiece. Absolutely amazing, thank you so much for sharing!

A-MAZ-ING!! how effective. I had to look back between your quilt and the stencil to see how you transformed it, into something completely your own. I am in awe..love the rainbow fabric and different colour threads.

Could you please tell me what brand of templates you used for this quilt, and any other information you can such as where you purchased them from. Thank you!!

OMG!!! THIS IS ABSOLUTELY STUNNING.!!! I'm going to follow you to see what other beautiful things you create. You have a great sense of color and design. You are also very inspiring. I'd love to try to make a quilt or even a wall hanging that looked similar to this. Thank you for taking the time to share your beautiful creation with us. I also like the information you shared such as the thread types etc. and advice you reminded us about from class. I got so much out of this class and I am taking a few of these free motion quilting classes but Cindy's caused me to finally have the lightbulb come on and I get it now!!! I couldn't be more thrilled that I can now free motion quilt my own bed size quilts beautifully, fast and most importantly easy!!!

That is so awesome, there are not words in my vocabulary wonderful enough to tell you how much I like it. I just stared at it for ages and am going to again as soon as I hit enter. I love you lines, the watercolor effect on the center, and there is so much to see and discover yet.
