Materials

This rug was created from up-cycled bed sheets and then hand dyed.

What was your inspiration?

I was looking for a way to get fabric for rugs without buying it new or eating in to my stash. I was at the thrift store and I noticed that sheet sets were selling for a pretty low price so I picked up a set and set to work cutting the fabric into one inch strips. At this point I didn't have a rotary cutter so I was actually cutting through 3 layers of fabric with a pair of sheers! At one point I started tearing the fabric but that left the edges too raveled and tangled. Eventually I bought a pair of electric sheers and that has made all the difference.

What are you most proud of?

Being resourceful.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Get a rotary cutter and a mat. The cutting goes so much smoother if you have the proper tools :)

Thanks everyone! I actually made the rug and then dyed it. I wanted the tones and hues to be the similar. I was worried that if I did the sheets first that the colors would be to different.

Beautiful! When did you dye this? Did you dye the sheets and then cut/make the rug? Or, did you make the rug and then dye the rug? Thank you for the patter.
