Materials

Old linens, sheets, pillowcases.

What was your inspiration?

We live in a log house during our summers. I wanted rugs for next to our beds that would complement the log house style. I came upon an old assortment of linens that were just to good to throw away and not nice enough to use on beds. Perfect for recycling.

What are you most proud of?

I'm so happy that I could repurpose still usable material and have something that was needed. Even our dogs love them

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

If you're not good at making your own instructions check out a few books from the library or go to the internet for more help.

I made one of these out of polyester slacks( leftover from a church yardsale) back in the 70's....'cause those things are disgusting! It was 10- feet across, round. I Left it behind when we moved and later thought I'd make another one some day. My Grandmother used to make braided rugs out of flannel so I've been saving old flannel nighties and other flannels for more years than I care to count...with this exact project in mind. An adaptation of Grammie's flannel and my crocheting. Perhaps NOW is the time to have at it, the idea of using the rotary cutter...which I've had for quilting, has really inspired me that it won't be such a huge project to get the fabric ready. Thanks for the inspiration!

these are great, i have made several, if you don't have old sheets go to thrift store to get some cheap...doesnt matter what they look like cause they get torn into strips and once crocheted you dont see defects

have fun! I tried saving the selvedge edges from my fabric, but it would have taken forever to get enough to make a rug. The ones I made used at least 2 twin sheets and 3 or 4 cases.
