Quilting Quickly II: Patterns, Techniques & Tips »

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Functional

For: Home

Style: Outdoorsy, Traditional, Casual

Materials

Moda Shaded Oak flannel layer cake, with brown and blue corduroy for the backing.

What was your inspiration?

We have a blue and brown bedroom, and my partner was moaning that he was cold at night, so I wanted to make something which fits with the existing decor and is also cosy.

What are you most proud of?

I only had to go back and re-sew a seam once!

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Don't try to make patterns with the colours - just go for a totally random design. I ended up with some squares of the same colour together but it still looks fine.

Wonderful first quilt. Did you put batting in the blocks to add for warmth? I want to make one for me. The rag quilt is the way to go for big quilts and its done when the squares are sewed together. Awesome. I have made a baby rag quilt. Time and money, usually if I have one I don't have the other. Nice quilt!!

Hi! I didn't put batting in the blocks - the quilt is already quite heavy due to the combination of flannel and corduroy, and I figured batting would make it totally impossible for us to get out of bed!! Thanks for your lovely comments.
