Share a little about the materials, processes and techniques used to create this cake: The finished design weight 42# and 25" tall. First I designed a template for the legs to fit the size of my cake. I cut and routered them and then fitted the 7" diameter 1/4" thick cake base into the legs themself to make it free standing. One tip: I forgot to take into account the thickness of the modelling on the legs and cake itself, I forgot to add about 1/4 centimeter on both sides of the cake. When I finished covering the legs with modelling chocolate, and covering the cake; I tried to slide the cake in and ripped it. I then had to shave it down, once that was done , I could then put it in. I used chocolate ganache then mixed 3/4 fondant and 1/4 modelling chocolate to cover the cake. Used sculpting tools, and air brushing to finish R2D2

So nice and precise!! How long did it take you to make this from start to finish including do overs?

Thank you! I didn't have any do overs, this was my very 1st R2D2 cake. It took 4 hours to just make the stand, so from baking to finishing details it was roughly 30-40 hours.
