What was your inspiration?

I heard about this organization started by the corporation that makes downy fabric softner. They provide quilt kits to anyone who wants one. You make the quilt and mail it back to them. The quilt is then given to a child with a serious illness for them to use while in hospital and they get to take it home when they leave. My late husband was in a nursing facility and when he passed a quilt that had been donated was used to wrap him in for transport. It was comforting to us and I thought this was a great idea for sick children.

What are you most proud of?

That it turned out so cute and that a sick child will love it and get some comfort from it.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Just do it! It is so easy and I was able to finish mine easily within the 6 weeks they ask you to complete it and send it back.

I would like to make one too. It would be great way to use the Pinnacle\JukiQi that I received for my 45th anniversary.

I visited the quilt for kids website. Such a beautiful way to help those in need. I do my little bit here the same way. Make quilts/blankets from leftover fabrics and give away to needy children. I love this simple but beautiful pattern.

I have made quilts for kids and also helped my 13 yr. old granddaughter and her BFF make the quilt tops which I then finished for them. The two quilts the girls made were mailed in a "one price "USPS small shipping box for $5.95 . Be sure to find the closest local chapter so mailing expense will be lower.

That is so lovely. I'm sure something like this is done here in Perth, Western Australia, but I've not heard of it and haven't really gotten into quilting/patchwork. Love to look at it and have done a lovely one for my first grandchild (Finlay) who is 9 weeks old and lives in Scotland.

What a wonderful and fun idea! I am finishing my first lap quilt and am wanting to do more. This will give me the opportunity to hone my skills and help others feel better. It will be especially meaningful because my daughter-in-law had cancer when she was a child and I am sure this would have been a blessing for her. Now I will do it in her honor!

after reading some of the posts; in my area we have a local sponsor that pays for all of our shipping costs....all the patterns and fabric that I have received are absolutely beautiful and most of it is donated!

I make quilts for this cause...I was advised to use all cotton and to do all machine sewing as it would be washed and dried in hospital industrial washers and dryers...don't know how the polyester batt will hold up to this kind of punishment...a very worthy cause....the quilt you made is gorgeous and I love how you quilted it!

The fabric in this quilt was provided in the free kit. Not sure where they purchased it. Each kit I've received has beautiful fabrics!

Beautiful quilt. Another alternative to Quilts for Kids is Project Linus. There is likely a chapter in your area. You can check it out at projectlinus.org. Either way the kids benefit! Thanks for sharing the pattern. Great work.

I just got involved in making quilts for kids and the pattern they sent was very fast and easy. Yours is quilted different from the way I quilted mine but the end result is still the same a comforted child.
