This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Beginner Serging: Machine Basics & Techniques »

Instructions

I used PUL to make the lining water-resistant, but it stretched and was difficult to control next to the batting, so I don't recommend it - perhaps if you're willing to tack it in place before sewing!

Difficulty:

Category: Sewing

Type of item: Functional

For: Unisex

Style: Whimsical, Funky, Cute, Casual

Materials

Quilting cotton, batting, thread, PUL lining, zip, overlocker

What was your inspiration?

The remnant was just the right size and matched well with the 4-colour threading on the overlocker at the time - anything not to have to rethread when it's working well!

What are you most proud of?

The free-motion stippling around all the eyeballs - you can't really see it, but as my husband said, "It makes a really interesting texture".

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Use the thinnest batting you can find, then quilt it densely for stiffness - the overlocker really hated the thickness of all these layers (and it's just a thin cotton batting).

The quilting around the eyeballs looks great! Sorry you had some tension issues- I'd replace the needles, and then loosen all the tensions. When you serge on a scrap of the quilted batting, you can can tighten all of them until it's just tight enough. I like the bag though!
