This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Stupendous Stitching: Adventures in Surface Design »

Instructions

This was made using techniques learned in the Stupendous Stitching course. Same process as the needle booklet and pillow I posted, just another use.

The smaller one was made first and I learned how important it is to use some rat-tail or other binding to finish it off and prevent fraying. I'm not very good at the corners yet but each one gets easier!

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Functional

For: Other

Style: Traditional, Whimsical

Materials

Small piece of fabric Couching materials Embroidery threads and needle Fusible interfacing and cotton batting Sewing machine & various threads Eyelet and setting tool Small piece of hemp

What was your inspiration?

I was actually trying to make something else and it did not work out. So I cut down what I had and turned it into some bookmarks - that's the little one. Today I made the longer one. Again, I made the mistake of using cotton batting inside instead of a stiffer interface...so I just made this one longer to give it more heft.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

I could not have done this without first taking the course which is excellent.

You have a great eye for design. The straight line with the curved lines work well together.

I absolutely LOVE how you used the exciting batik background to emphasize the curves of your couching. Adding the straight line made these pieces much more interesting. And those French Knots brought focus! Nice!
