What advice would you give someone starting this project? To sew the vinyl it helps to have a roller or walking foot on your machine. If you don't have either try a dab of machine oil on the bottom of the presser foot.

You're welcome. You should have seen the first one I tried to sew, it was a bit of a mess. Then I remembered I had a roller foot. Made a huge difference.

I'm glad you enjoyed my pattern. Isn't it the neatest trick to layer everything before you sew... And I love the tip to iron up a quarter inch before you sew. Makes it very easy to iron flat after you turn it all right side out. I never have a problem sewing over the vinyl, but they say you can add a bit of scotch tape to the bottom ov your presser foot. Gail - Thanks for sharing this great pattern! I will try the tape trick next time. One thing I did on the last one was to use masking tape to hold the vinyl in place. Wish I had thought of that in the beginning. Years ago I made a bag to hold art supplies and used vinyl for the pockets and sewed on velcro to close the pockets. I don't remember having any problems sewing the vinyl then but it was about 20 years ago.

I did something similar I printed on card stock on front and back my info. Used Contact paper on both sides leaving a seam. I bound it like I would a quilt and used bright funky fabric to help pick out my bag. and extended my binding to tie on the bag. If you do a certain know onto the luggage it will not come off. and if it got lost - not much tie into making it so I carried on another just in case - did not need it =]
