What was your inspiration?
This is a new quilt that I have designed and constructed. I fell in love with the beautiful Kaffe Fassett floral fabric and just had to use it. However, the design was very large scale and I didin't want to cut into it too much so challenged myself to design a quilt with large pieces of uncut fabric as a focal point. The quilt is named Trixie's Quilt in honour of the homeland of my sister-in-law. Trixie and my brother live in her native Phillippines and the beautiful colours in the main fabric reminded me of the beautiful tropical blue sea, the gorgeous pink flowers and the sandy beaches. Therefore, the name of this quilt seemed to be obvious! I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed designing and making it.
The quilt size is 80" x 80" (200cm x 200cm).
The main block used is the flying geese block and the pattern uses a technique based on squares and doesn't use bias edges. In this way you are able to achieve very accurate piecing and sharp points.
What are you most proud of?
Being able to design a beautiful quilt and make a Family member very happy.
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
The whole quilt is built around the main feature fabric so choose one you know you can't live without!
