Instructions

Watch the video all the way through. Also, if you plan to make these in a precious metal wire, practice at least once on inexpensive wire.

Difficulty:

Category: Jewelry

Type of item: Accessory

For: Women

Style: Casual, Retro / Vintage, Classic

Materials

Red brass wire, pliers

What was your inspiration?

I find it much easier to wear post earrings, and rarely see anyone demonstrating how to make post earring findings. So I decided to do a video that shows how to make them, and also have them be quick-change, so you can change out the earring drops in seconds.

What are you most proud of?

That I am able to demonstrate how to make post findings, instead of the traditional french wires.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Practice at least once before trying on sterling, gold or gold-filled wire! :)

They look simple, I use these spirals in the jewelry I make quite often. They would look cute with a crystal in the center.

I have made these , the instructional video was very easy to follow because the instructions were given in easy to understand language , and the demonstration was filmed in a way that you could see what she was doing in every step of the demo . I have also worn them and have had many compliments on them . I like the fact that just by putting a drop on them or removing it they can go with everything. thank you for a great project.

Thanks so much for the simple and clear instructions. Cant wait to make a silver and gold pair for myself and my sister. I can see endless possibilities for dangles. Thanks for sharing.

I love this design and use it a lot for post earrings. You can make a little loop on the bottom and attached a bead or beads. Lovely.

I agree - I love your design and was glad to see the variation, because I was unhappy with that cut wire on the outside on the design I saw. It just goes to show that while there may not be anything new under the sun, there can be adjustments !

Fi you make the back post a little longer and bend it up, you can put the earring on and if lays against your ear...no backs!! I make these for the majority of my earrings..I saw the pattern in Step by Step wire...a really smart lady design them...her name is Char Jorgensen. she calls the postsa comboy of a post and a wire...

There's a very similar pattern in "Handcrafted Wire Findings" by Denise Peck and Jane Dickerson, but they make the top loop arched, and start with the post instead of ending with it, which leaves a cut wire on the outer edge. This design avoids that, which I believe is an improvement. I think I'd like to make a combination of both patterns. And if you make the back post as bevycole 39187 suggests, you can add drops held in place with crimps.

I guess it was inevitable that someone thought of this before me! I don't read the Step-by-Step Wire magazine, so I didn't realize someone else had done something similar. At least mine was a little bit different. :)

That is a good idea to make it backless. I'm a post kinda gal, so I didn't even think of that variation. ;)
