Queen of Sheba Torte

Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Decadent Chocolate Cakes »

Difficulty:

Category: Cake Decorating

Type of item: Food

For: Home

Style: Traditional, Classic

Materials

Perugina Bittersweet Chocolate (70% cacao); Scharffen Berger Semisweet Baking Chunks; Baker's White Chocolate, Trader Joe's Milk Chocolate, Trader Joe's Bittersweet Chocolate (72% cacao); Trader Joe's ground almonds, Trader Joe's organic unsalted butter, organic sugar, organic free range eggs

What was your inspiration?

I am a huge fan of Alice Medrich and was thrilled to see that she was teaching a Craftsy course! To be honest, I would have taken any class she taught, but I happen to love cakes!

What are you most proud of?

I love how the icing turned out on the top! And it tasted absolutely wonderful :) The guests were very impressed!

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Don't be afraid to try the open water bath to melt the chocolate! It took all of the stress out of it, and I will certainly melt my chocolate this way in the future.

I decided not to do the almonds since I was too nervous that I would end up ruining it after all that hard work, but I will try next time. I will also do a better job on my crumb coat since you can definitely see every lump and bump that was left.

Beautiful. I am going to make my first one tomorrow after a visit to Trader Joes. I am so glad it tasted as good as it looks.
