QM provides us with a 5x10 and a 10x10 piece of fabric (Black and White) that we ae required to use in the monthly block. In addition I purchased a package of 12 fat 8th Kaffe Fassett fabric stixs which I'm using, and yardage to the sashing (black & white scrolling). Each month with the fabric QM give us the block pattern. From my stash I'll us material for the cornerstones and backing in a variety of colors that will appear in the blocks.
What was your inspiration?
Blocks on the left are quilted with sashing I'll use througout the quilt. (April blocks),
May blocks I got the pattern yesterday and did today, they are not yet quilted, I'm opting to do two blocks each month and do them a little differently so I hope I'll have a queen size quilt when done.
I don't know who will have it in the end, but I'll definately have fun making it. It might even be a keeper since I haven't kept any thing I've done yet.
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
With any project I'd suggest you take photos and when it's done, if you give it as a qift try and get a photo of the quilt and the person it's for. I didn't my first year, and I regret it. I post the photos of my completed quilts with the recipient on my facebook page in a digital album.
I also want to say that in my shops BOM we don't know what the quilt will look like until the end of the year after we've done all the blocks, In the last meeting for the year we be a setting pattern, and we get to see any of the shop participants quilt top that are completed.
At the end of each new BOM meeting we have 10 mintues to show off our last completed BOM or other projects.
Personally I like the mystery of it all.
