Special instructions for the recipe the instructions can be found on the link, in my blog about making this customized cake from a photo of a vintage tapestry purse. The basic 3-D purse carved out of partially frozen cake layers was covered in textured look buttercream to make a tapestry appearance. Challenging but fun. What are you most proud of? The fact that there were no instructions or patterns for this cake. I had to think it through, and then just do it. I did draw out a tapestry pattern as close to the photo as I could manage. Then I "drew" it onto the cake with piping and then filled in with colors that were made to look more subdued like an older tapestry. I'm really proud of the results. I just completely made up how to do it. lol. This is only my 2nd purse cake ever. I'll definately be making more.

What advice would you give someone starting this project? Think it through COMPLETELY before starting. Draw out your design on paper. Use a flexible measuring tape to make sure the handles are the right size in comparison to the purse, etc. Twice the planning and one time for the work. I also recommend working with partially frozen cake when carving. Room temp cake is too soft and will crumble. Use thin dowels or bubble tea straws (bigger thicker drinking straws) to stabilize each end. Adding a little black icing to the colors will make them not so bright and more subdued like tapestry weaving. Use gold icing gel coloring, not yellow. For the metalic gold look on the "hardware", use the gold powder found in Wilton cake supplies. It can be brushed on dry, or a drop of vodka (yes, vodka) added to paint it on.
