Difficulty:

Category: Sewing

Type of item: Clothing

For: Women

Style: Romantic, Cute

Materials

Silk from an inherited stash (used burn test to find out fabric content), and Simplicity 2892. No interfacing or buttons required.

What was your inspiration?

The fabric itself inspired me to find a fun pattern that would show off the circles. Nikki found this pattern in my collection, and there was just enough fabric to make it work.

What are you most proud of?

The details. This is a simple pattern to assemble, so it was easy to take the time to finish all the seams (since the fabric is so lightweight, I just turned the seam allowance under and edge stitched it).

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Get creative. This is a great pattern for a beginning sewist to learn gathering. Those of you with beading skills might want to do a beaded silk organza overlay for the yoke instead of gathering the yoke. To do this, you would eliminate the gathered pieces and cut an extra lining piece to bead and attach (probably by hand).

Nice! I made this pattern in a cotton...looks (hangs) much nicer in the silk. Lovely work.

I do love the feel of cotton, but I can see why the fluidity of silk works better with this pattern.

Gorgeous. Looks like an out-of-my-price-range top at an expensive department store. Very inspiring!

Thank you. A simple pattern with great fabric always looks expensive (and IS expensive at the department store).
