Vintage 1960's re-purposed purple lantern bead, 8mm metallic gold Czech glass faceted rondells, 5 mm hand-faceted amethyst rondells, 3mm purple chalcedony rounds, 2inch headpins, 20ga half hard wire for forming earwires.
What was your inspiration?
My inspiration was the focal bead. The lantern beads are not only great color , but have great texture! How can you not love a bead like that?
What are you most proud of?
I love mixing up colors and finished of beads. I love the way that the accent beads aren't all uniform , and have that same play on texture and dimension that is seen in the focal. Also, I recently started making my own earwires, and I feel that just that little change can give a project a whole different vibe.
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
Go for it! Jewelry should be fun. Using a variety of sizes and finishes makes the whole thing more interesting visually. Also, this focal is re-purposed from one of the ugliest necklaces in the world. It was dated , half of the beads were falling off, the " gold tone" chain was discolored and flaking off...but despite all that I saw the beauty in the individual components. If you LOVE an element of something , but hate the original piece, take it apart and make something that makes you smile :-)
