Sewing: Purple Fleece Hoodie

Purple Fleece Hoodie

Bernie Bernina, the new love of my life.

Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Sewing With Knits: 5 Wardrobe Essentials »

Instructions

You may not need a walking foot. I sewed this hoodie on my new-to-me Bernina 830 Record, without a walking foot and it feeds nice and even. MUCH better than my old Kenmore did WITH a walking foot. I lucked out and found this vintage Bernina on Craigslist for $165. If you come across one, grab it, run....and don't look back. ;-)

Difficulty:

Category: Sewing

Type of item: Clothing

For: Women

Style: Casual

Materials

I picked up this fleece fabric in the clearance at Hancock fabrics for $3 per yard. It cost less than $10 to make.

What was your inspiration?

I love my leopard hoodie so much I had to make another. There will be at least one more for me. Then I have to make a couple for my daughters for Christmas. No problem since we all wear the same size. I can reuse the pattern and these sew up in an evening.

What are you most proud of?

That I am getting back into sewing after being away from it for nearly 20 years.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

You are going to LOVE it!

So there is hope! I have a Singer from the 60s that I use the walking foot for straight stiching quilts. The opening will not accomidate a zig zag so I feel stuck. What kind of stitch are you using for sewing with kits? Also, Meg switched to a different stitch ( I think) for around the face/opening of the hoodie. Did you do different stitches on your hoodie? Also, I wanted to sew down the seams - did you, if so what stitch did you use?

I am using a regular narrow zig zag for the seams and 2 rows of zig zag for the top stitching.

Looks great...did you cut the pattern straighter at the hips. I noticed there is quite a flair at the bottom of the hoodie pattern and although I thinks it's cute, I would prefer mine to fit a bit flatter at the sides. Any suggestions?

I didn't cut this one straighter but have considered doing so in the future.

I'm not really an embellishments kind of gal but I'll think about it. ;-)

I'm cutting mine out this weekend. Hope it looks as good as yours. Sounds like you're on a hoodie roll.

Yes, they seem to be addictive. There's something about an "instant gratification" project.

I agree on both counts. ;-) The machine was located just blocks from my home. I couldn't drive over there fast enough. LOL!
