Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Bag-Making Basics: Drawstring Bag & Bucket Bag »

Instructions

Making the drawstrings was a bit maddening, but I got it eventually.

I made the bag 2 inches longer than the pattern so it could accommodate my knitting needles.

Difficulty:

Category: Sewing

Type of item: Accessory

For: Unisex

Style: Classic, Cute, Casual

Materials

Parts of three fat quarters from Jo-Ann. The pattern only requires two, but I wanted to use three different fabric styles.

What was your inspiration?

I needed a bag to hold my knitting project. This bag is just the right size.

What are you most proud of?

The drawstring channels lined up correctly!

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

You can use any fabrics you want and make the bag bigger or smaller as needed. Allow plenty of time for cutting out all the pieces. The video lessons are short, but she starts with everything already cut out.

Watch carefully how she does the drawstrings, especially getting them turned right-side out. It's kind of fiddly and can be frustrating.

Thanks, Athena! It's definitely hard to resist all the beautiful fabrics out there. I'm trying to keep my projects reasonable and only buy what I need. It's not easy!

This bag is very attractive and turned out so good that I have to tell you it is the reason that I took the course and made a bag too! Great combination of colors and prints!

Thanks for the tips. Yes, I almost always find the fabric cutting to take the longest! Nice colors! :-)
