Materials

I used Red Heart yarn in a medium weight with a 4mm crochet hook. The bag was lined with 100% cotton fabric and a zipper was used along the top of the purse for the closure. The flower appliqu? was made with the same fabric as the lining and was completed with a button centre.

What was your inspiration?

I designed the purse myself. However, it was based on a bag that I saw on FutureGirl.com. I had seen a lot of fabric scrap flowers on the Internet and decided to try to make one for this purse.

What are you most proud of?

I am most proud of my ability at sewing the zipper onto the lining. I had only sewn 1 zipper prior to this and it took a very long time to sew, but it turned out very well. I am also very proud of the flower appliqu?. This was the second one that I made - the first one was too small and did not fit the purse well at all.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

One of the most important features of this bag is the wrist handle. You need to make sure that the tension for the stitches are not too loose and not too tight. If the stitches are too loose, the handle will look strange. But if the stitches are too tight, you may have a hard time getting the strap onto your wrist. Make sure to try the wrist handle out for size as you are crocheting it!
