When doing red work embroidery, my teacher Mary (Mt Si Quilt Shop) told me to use a second (plain) piece of fabric on the back - so you're actually embroidering through two thicknesses of fabric. This gives an extra layer - so your threads on the back don't show through to the front, like they might if you only use one piece of fabric to embroider. Works great! I used a white on white fabric, and DMC red embroidery floss. I used a red & white 100% cotton fat quarter to create the border and back. Embelished with red rick rack, and white antique buttons from my Grandma's button jar. It was fun to make - and kept me busy when we were snowed in this past week in the Seattle area!
Thank you to all of you who've given my project a heart!! It was really fun to make this little pillow - and I'm excited to try a few more redwork projects for Valentine's Day!! :)
