Materials

Sundress resembling a bustier top with princess seams. No boning in this one altho boning is called for in the pattern. Learn to do boning by taking Gertie's bombshell dress class. I have yet to do that. I will soon and will post the dress made of black floral cotton broadcloth with black ribbon accents.

What was your inspiration?

I was inspired by Gertie and purchased a pattern to make this prior to taking her class that I signed up for months ago and just have not had the time to make her's which I will this summer when it gets to be 110 here in AZ.

What are you most proud of?

That I did not have to use boning.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Buy a quality cotton gabardine or broadcloth so that the dress looks professional and stands up under lots of correcting. I have to add a new panel because I caught the back in the Serger and had to order more fabric from my source in LA. This is really lovely on and makes me look thinner than I am. Princess seams are great for those of use who don't have small waists and need some slimming. This was the perfect pattern for that. I do intend to make Gertie's bombshell this summer so watch for it in either this fabric or a black and highly colorful floral cotton broadcloth. It was supposed to be for quilting but since I retired from making blankets to make clothes, a lot of my expensive fabrics that were going to make quilts are now being used for joyful couture on etsy that opens this summer around August with ready-to-wear blouses, tops and dresses. NO pants!

Thank you Scheri. I just checked out your projects and flickr page. Don't do social networking due to having a computer geek for a hubby and it's a security risk so I am not able to even have a facebook acct. I will sign up for Susan's class after my ship comes in on the 13th. Over 65 ship. You are quite the couture seamstress. Notice that stress is in the word seamSTRESS. Sound about right?
