What was your inspiration?
the powder room was nearly 30 years old and in very bad condition when i purchased the house - rotted floors, walls, cabinetry even the sink and countertop had cigarette burns in them.. and it's the room every guest uses when they visit so it was in dire need of a makeover.. the toilet wasn't even sitting on a subfloor - it was crooked and sitting on a joist. the previous owners weren't too good about maintenance to say the least. The ENTIRE room needed a serious overhaul. My inspiration came with some serious shopping to get the items required at the lowest possible price while keeping style in mind. I liked the idea of something that was different yet functional and the sink and vanity were just the ticket and the mirror had to be oval, not square, not round, but oval and wood.. which wasn't so easy to find.
What are you most proud of?
from my head to the finished project.
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
If you like click floor that's great but the wider the board the harder it is to install in a tight space. what can't be seen in the picture is the closet at the end of the room to the right of the vanity in the picture.. you have to cut around the doors and get it tight enough to look nice without added corneround to everything - getting into the closet and keeping the floor tight to the wall and snapping those wide boards together is a pain. Get the click floor install kit it's well worth the money. Make sure you caulk the baseboards to keep the look clean - no gaps anywhere. Shop, shop, shop for the things you need. There are some great deals out there.. From the plumber to the baseboards & trim; the sink and vanity, flooring and pictures on the walls.. even the light fixture, paint, towel ring and toilet roll floor stand.. the entire room for $1100.00 (recycled the toilet as it was in good shape) but for $1100.00 it's a pretty nice updated powder room done on a tight budget.
