My inspiration? Junk! Two old windows, old picket fence, an old work bench and a footboard of a bed (turned upside down) make up the structure...designed it as I went... Just love it! :)

Left the price off: $1.00 priceless, some may even give them away.

I work at Lowe's and the wooden shelving that the smaller plants come are a good starting place. I made one out of the shelving and then put sheet metal on the planting surface. It cleans up well. Check your local plant area they just might have something to start with and add as you go. But your is a cutie and I will probably update mine.

very cool and a construction project even I could do :) I love it, can't wait to start looking for pieces and parts :) What were the metal boxes for dirt and whatever the other one is for? I love the idea but was wondering where you find something like them.

Would a shower curtain hold up in everyday weather, I was thinking about that for a skirt? I am going to watch for the "junk" along side ther road & garage sales. I have alerted my husband to what I will need and it may take awhile to gather but I will get one. I think this is sooo cute and absolutely functionable...lol

I would try a decorative oil cloth and double it and sew it with a casing for the rod to go through. The shower curtain would tend to rip in nasty windy weather!

I think oil cloth that is decorative would be better for this project and double it and sew a casing for the rod then gather it on the rod

So many different clever ideas! I have a bench my hubby made for me and this gives me several ideas on how to "spice it up." I'm going to try oil-cloth fabric for the skirt which should hold up for the most part in the Pacific Northwest. Thanks for sharing!!!

Adorable, functional and clever-using vinyl curtains! Here in NM however its the sun, not the rain we have to worry about-causes extensive fading/damage :-(. I would much rather have the rain!!

Like the idea of using vinyl for the curtains.....living in Ontario, near Lake Erie and the Detroit River, we get a lot of rain, especially THIS year... monsoons ! This is such a great idea.....love it...

Well, we certainly can have a dry summer. But these days, like everywhere else, the weather is totally unpredictable. I probably couldn't get away with leaving any fabric outside, no.

My umbrellas always fade in the sun and lose their color, they need to come up with something resistent to fading.

You must live somewhere it doesn't rain much - my potting bench is drenched daily and I can't leave pretty fabrics etc out on it, I am so jealous!!

I live in NW Michigan...we get rain, LOTS of rain! (we are right at Lake Michigan shore) The skirting on the bench is actually a vinyl tablecloth, that I sewed a casing into and hung on rods. It weathers just perfect! Looks good for several years, before it shows fading. The little curtains in the back are vinyle "lace" placemats, or doilies...can't remember. I made a casing in these and hung on the rod. They look perfect after 10_

I have some old window frames with the glass still in them. I'm going to use them but I love the "gate" sides. I had shoulder surgery a couple of months ago so it will be next spring before I start one. Love yours.

You can also use old windows for dry erase boards. They work wonderfully...just a suggestion. I hope your shoulder is healed. Been there and done that.....

I've had a garden bench for years, but It's looking very worn out. Thanks for the ideas on how I can spice it up and give it some pizazz.

Great innovation! Love the curtain to hide the stuff, too girly for my hubby, but one could use burlap instead. What is the hanging straw purse used for?

more garden tools :) I once had it sitting next to a chair, planted with flowers. now it holds more tools that don't hang or hang well on the bench.
