What was your inspiration?
We wanted to make a vegetable garden using the material we already had lying around. We have always loved traditional, whimsical English cottage looks & we have incorporated it all in this garden.
What are you most proud of?
The bespoke gates that my husband made from Macropcarpa branches. All gnarled & twisted & different shapes. It was very difficult to make the gates & then to hang them on hinges was even harder to get them to swing correctly.
What advice would you give someone starting this project?
Just let the site tell you what it needs. Check where the sun rises & falls. Check to see where the wind prevails & grow a hedge to block that wind. Grow your taller plants towards the back so that they dont block the sun on your other veges. Mix flowers & veges together so that it bring the bees to the garden & that it is also pleasant to work in!
