Celtic Cables

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Celtic Cables »

Instructions

Follow Carol's instructions and watch the last bonus lesson first, because fixing cables will inevitably be a part of knitting!

I wouldn't use this yarn again for a sweater for an adult, because it pills easily, especially along the arms. I chose it because it was so soft, but for an Aran Cable sweater, the wool should probably have a little more structure to it.

Debbie Bliss Fez yarn Craftsy Course Celtic Cables with Carol Feller

What was your inspiration?

I lost a sweater that I had bought in Ireland thirty years ago, and wanted to knit one myself. I find cables so interesting and love Carol's designs. I will definitely use techniques I learned in her course to improve my knitting in other projects.

What are you most proud of?

I am most proud of actually doing the swatches first, and blocking them before starting the actual sweater. I have always had trouble reading the gauge, but persevered and the sweater fit perfectly. I stopped when I noticed an error in the cables and reworked them - - - several times!! I also masted the Kitchener Stitch, without having to re-read the instructions or rewind! Yea!!!

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Take the time to do the swatches, so that you understand the cables. It certainly saves time and frustration in the long run. Also, watch the fixing cables video (the last one), after you have worked through the first 15 rows--just in case!!!!

Donna, What brand of yarn did you use that pills? After you put so much work in to it that would certainly be disappointing.

I used Debbie Bliss' Fez. It feels very soft, but I have to 'shave' it after wearing it each time;((((.

Thank you! But, I won't use that wool again. Although it is soft, it also pills easily, so that is disappointing.

Thanks, Carol. Your patterns are amazing. Would you recommend Briggs and Little Heritage wool for this pattern? I will knit it again, once I make some baby things for our first grandchild.
