What are you most proud of? I started painting when I turned 50 four years ago, I had never painted before. I started with watercolour and added oil painting three years ago. You can see the progression. They actually look like they are supposed to. The

What advice would you give someone starting this project? Take your time and don't rush it

Marshal Ney for the pose, but I wanted a younger version, and a lot of research done on french military uniforms. I have been painting for 31/2 years so a lot of research is necessary. I find skin is particularly interesting to paint. Learning about the Flemish method helped me get the tones and depth of skin.
